Wilkerson Photography

John Wilkerson studied photojournalism at the University of Southern Mississippi and has worked as a stringer with the SunHerald newspaper, located in Gulfport Mississippi, off and on since the 1980's.  John's photos have also been published by The Sea Coast Echo in Bay St. Louis as well as the Associated Press and MSNBC.com.  MSNBC photo essay, "The Gulf Coast's Struggle Back", using John's photographs recently earned two awards from the National Press Photographer's Association.  Stories about those awards can be viewed on the "Awards" page.

John, and his before and after photos, was featured on the NBC Nightly News segment "In his own words".  The segment can be viewed on the videos page.
John allowed the SunHerald to publish some of his Katrina photos in their book "Before and After".  A portion of the money from sale of the book goes to Katrina relief.  The book is still available in bookstores and from the SunHerald. 

 Well everyone I have an announcement!  My good friend Kathleen Koch has written a book that is now available online and in stores soon.  She has chosen one of my photos to be on the cover of the book and  more on the interior. I am proud to have her use my photos.  Kathleen is a former corespondent with CNN and made numerous trips to the Bay St. Louis area in the weeks and months following the storm.  Her documentary of how Katrina destroyed the homes and affected the lives of the people of the Gulf Coast brought the much needed attention to Mississippi and her people. Kathleen brought her family to Bay St. Louis where they volunteered their time to help gut houses.  Kathleen spent much of her childhood in Bay St. Louis in a home on Beach Blvd. Her former home like all others on the beach was destroyed by Katrina. 

Please go to your favorite online bookstore and order her book, you won't be sorry. If you ever  wondered just what it was like along the Mississippi coast in the days and months after Katrina, you will wonder no more. It's a great read.
